Cannon Lane offers tuition in a range of popular musical instruments for Key Stage 2 children (Years 3 to 6). The links below provide information about the various instruments available and the tutors. Lessons take place during the school day at school.
Lessons run from September to July term time. Bookings are made in May online for the next academic year using the booking system, further details can be found here.
BassoonInstrument Category: Woodwind | |
| Bassoon is taught by Mrs Fairbank. Instruments are provided without a hire charge to encourage children to take up this fantastic and endangered instrument. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Note that although there are four places on offer for bassoon overall, two places will be allocated to pupils from Years 3 and 4 and two places to pupils from Years 5 and 6. |
CelloInstrument Category: Lower Strings | |
| Cello is taught by Ms Davies and lessons take place on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons. Pupils who study the Cello will eventually have the opportunity to join the String Orchestra. This ensemble offers the children the opportunity to take part in a variety of performances, including String Festival and the Summer Concert. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. |

| Clarinet is taught by Mr Wolfe. Lessons currently take place on Friday. Pupils who study the Clarinet will eventually have the opportunity to join Wind Band. This ensemble offers the children the opportunity to take part in a variety of performances, including Band Festival and the Summer Concert. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. |

| Double Bass is taught by Ms Caffrey-Davies. Lessons take place on Thursday afternoons. Pupils who study the Double Bass will eventually have the opportunity to join the String Orchestra. | Piano is taught by Mrs Murray, and is one of our most popular instruments. Lessons currently take place on Wednesday. Pupils who study the Piano have the opportunity to take part in the Cannon Lane Summer Concert. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. |
Steel PansInstrument Category: Percussion | |
| Steel Pans are taught in groups of eight pupils by Mr Joseph. The children use the school’s own set of Steel Pans weekly. Parents do not need to purchase or hire any instrument. Children are able to learn Steel Pans in conjunction with another instrument at school. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. |
TromboneInstrument Category: Brass | |
| The trombone is a musical instrument in the brass family. Like all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player’s vibrating lips cause the air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Nearly all trombones have a telescoping slide mechanism that varies the length of the instrument to change the pitch. Trombone is taught by Mr Taylor. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. |
