4. Expectations for School Uniform

4.1 Our School Uniform

The school colours are brown and white.

Main School Uniform

Pupils should wear:

• Grey trousers
• Grey shorts
• Grey skirt
• Grey pinafore dress
• Brown school jumper or brown cardigan with the Cannon Lane Primary School logo
• White polo shirt (with or without logo), or plain white shirt or blouse
• Cannon Lane school tie when wearing a shirt or blouse
• White or grey socks
• Black or grey tights
• Summer Uniform
• From Easter until the Autumn half term, pupils may wear:
• Yellow and white checked summer dresses available from high street retailers

Footwear

Pupils should wear:

• Flat black school shoes including plain smart black trainers
• Boots not allowed as they are not suitable for everyday school wear
• Parents and carers are encouraged to choose velcro-fastening shoes for children who are not yet confident tying laces independently.

Physical Education (PE)

A separate PE kit is not required for children in Reception.

For all other year groups, pupils should wear:

• House colour t-shirt (red, blue, yellow, green) available from high street retailers
• Plain black shorts or skort
• Plain black joggers
• Plain black sweatshirt without logos
• No hooded tops for safety reasons
• Black or white trainers for outdoor PE
• No jewellery or watches should be worn for PE lessons.
• Earrings and studs must be removed on PE, games and swimming days

Swimming

Where swimming forms part of the curriculum, pupils should bring:

• Swimming hat
• One-piece swimsuit or lycra trunks
• Towel

Bermuda-style shorts are not permitted.

Hair

• Long hair must be tied back
• Hair bands and scrunchies should be black, brown, white or yellow
• Extreme hairstyles are not permitted
• Headscarves should be black, white or brown

Reasonable adjustments relating to religious observance or cultural practice will be considered.

Jewellery and Make-Up

• Pupils may wear small gold or silver stud earrings
• Earrings must be removed for PE, games and swimming
• Religious jewellery should be discussed with the Headteacher
• Nail varnish and make-up should not be worn in school

4.2 Where to Purchase Uniform

Generic uniform items may be purchased from supermarkets, high street retailers or other clothing suppliers.

Branded items, including school jumpers, cardigans and ties, are available from the school’s approved uniform supplier. Information regarding suppliers and second-hand uniform availability is available from the school office and on the school website.

The school encourages the reuse of good-quality second-hand uniform wherever possible.

5. Expectations for Our School Community

5.1 Pupils

Pupils are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times, except on authorised non-uniform days, including when:

• On the school premises
• Travelling to and from school
• Representing the school at events or visits where required
• Pupils should take pride in their appearance and ensure uniform is worn appropriately.

5.2 Parents and Carers

Parents and carers are expected to ensure that their child:

• Has the correct uniform and PE kit
• Wears clean clothing
• Has all items clearly labelled
• Maintains uniform in good condition

The school stocks a small amount of second-hand school uniform which may be available to purchase for a small donation.  Second hand uniform sales are organised at different points throughout the school year.
